India's Got Latent Row: Assam police files FIR against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina & others for 'promoting sexually explicit' content

Trouble is escalating for YouTuber Ranveer Allahabdia as Assam Police has filed an FIR against him for his controversial remarks during a recent episode of India's Got Latent. Alongside Ranveer, comedian Samay Rana and several other influencers have been booked for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussions on the show.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, and others have also been named in the FIR for their involvement in promoting inappropriate content.

The controversial incident

The controversy ignited when Ranveer Allahabdia asked a contestant on the show a series of derogatory questions, which immediately sparked backlash. Viewers and critics quickly expressed outrage, calling for stricter regulations on content shared on public platforms.

The offensive nature of the remarks led to widespread demands for accountability.

In response to the incident, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) intervened by sending a letter to the video streaming platform, urging them to remove any videos containing the controversial remarks made by Ranveer.

This is not the first time the influencers involved have faced scrutiny. A formal complaint had previously been filed against Ranveer Allahabdia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, and comedian Samay Rana following their alleged controversial and offensive comments on India's Got Latent. The remarks reportedly crossed the line of decency, prompting public outcry and legal action.

The FIR filed by Assam Police now intensifies the legal and public backlash against the influencers involved, especially as the controversy continues to unfold.
