Authorities in Assam on Tuesday published the final electoral roll ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, concluding the Special Revision (SR) of the voter list, according to an official press note issued by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam.
According to the CEO’s data, the final electoral roll comprises 2,49,58,139 electors. This includes 1,24,82,213 male voters, 1,24,75,583 female voters, and 343 voters in the third gender category, reflecting near gender parity in the state’s electorate.
Unlike the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 12 other states and UTs, the SR process in Assam was done through door-to-door verification, not form-filling or document submission. For this, a total of 29,656 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were engaged across the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said an “extensive” Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will take place in Assam after the Assembly elections.
The final list has seen the exclusion of around 2.43 lakh voters from the draft electoral roll published in December 2025. Earlier, more than 10.56 lakh names were removed during the SR exercise conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI). With the publication of the final roll, the total number of deletions now stands at around 13 lakh.
The finalisation follows a statewide house-to-house verification drive carried out between November 22 and December 20, 2025. Based on this exercise, the draft electoral roll was published on December 27, 2025, showing a total electorate of 2,52,01,624 voters. Of these, 1,25,72,583 were male, 1,26,28,662 female, and 379 were third gender voters.
After the draft roll was released, election authorities opened a window for claims and objections, allowing voters to apply for inclusion, deletion and correction of entries. The CEO’s office said all claims and objections were examined and disposed of in accordance with ECI guidelines before the roll was finalised.
Appeals against decisions can be filed with the District Magistrate within 15 days, with a second appeal provision available before the Chief Electoral Officer within 30 days.
Officials said the Special Revision exercise was conducted to ensure a clean, accurate and inclusive voter database, which will now serve as the base electoral roll for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
