Riflewomen of the Assam Rifles have emerged as the linchpins of rescue and relief efforts in flood-stricken Tripura.

As the state grapples with the aftermath of relentless monsoon rains, these women are not just aiding in rescue operations but are also offering a beacon of hope to thousands caught in the deluge.

On August 22, Assam Rifles received a distress call from Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district, where several women were stranded atop submerged rooftops.

Responding with characteristic swiftness, riflewomen from the relief teams were dispatched to the location. Braving the turbulent waters, they successfully evacuated the stranded women, ensuring their safe passage to nearby relief camps.

The Assam Rifles has deployed four rescue columns across the state, covering areas like East Kanchanbari, Kumarghat, Unakoti district, Amarpur of Gomati district, Bishalgarh, Sepahijala district, and Tripura West.

Beyond evacuation efforts, these teams are providing medical care, distributing essential supplies, and working closely with the civil administration and NDRF teams to manage the crisis.

The toll of the disaster is grim: 10 lives lost, and over 34,000 people forced to take refuge in 331 relief camps spread across eight districts.

The scale of the flood has necessitated a rapid influx of relief materials and disaster management equipment, which arrived at Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Bahadur Airport on Thursday.

As Tripura braces for potentially more severe flooding, Chief Minister Manik Saha has urged residents to stay vigilant and heed the instructions of authorities.
