Aspiring candidates of Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) wait to enter an examination hall to appear in the examination for the Assam Government Grade-3 jobs, in Guwahati, Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.

The Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) for Group III employees in the state government was held peacefully on Sunday, with no reports of any untoward incidents from the 2,305 centres across the state.

The exams, conducted under tight security, saw internet services suspended for three and a half hours to prevent malpractices. The services was however restored later in the day.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his gratitude to the officials involved in ensuring a smooth process. “My deepest gratitude to all the officers and staff of the Assam government who have successfully completed this monumental task without any issue,” Sarma posted on X.

He reiterated his commitment to maintaining transparency in government recruitment processes, assuring the younger generation of fair practices.

The ADRE is aimed at filling vacant Group III posts in the Assam government. A total of 11,23,204 candidates were eligible to appear for the exam across the state. Gates to the examination centres opened at 10 am, with candidates queuing up early in the morning.

To prevent malpractices, internet services were suspended between 10 am and 1:30 pm. An official order cited previous incidents where candidates resorted to unfair means using social media platforms and mobile applications like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

“Internet connectivity has been suspended as on earlier occasions, some unscrupulous elements resorted to unfair means using different mobile applications,” the order noted.

Security measures were also heightened, with heavy deployment of forces outside the examination centres. Authorities had marked 429 centres as ‘sensitive’ due to their geographical location and history of cheating and other malpractices.

Chief Minister Sarma extended his best wishes to the candidates ahead of the exam. “Best wishes to all candidates appearing in the ADRE Class III exam. Give your best shot with full sincerity and integrity and with a relaxed mind. Good luck,” he posted on X.

In a bid to facilitate the smooth movement of candidates, the Northeast Frontier Railways operated 12 special trains and extended the destination of four regular trains.

The Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) had earlier announced that the written examination for Class III posts, requiring a Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC), would take place on September 15.

The state government took stringent measures to ensure a fair selection process, mindful of the recruitment scams that have plagued the state in recent years.
