Law enforcement officials make a significant drug seizure after intercepting a vehicle in Silchar, Assam on Thursday.

Assam witnessed a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking as authorities seized a staggering 21 kilograms of heroin valued at Rs 210 crore in Silchar.

The Special Task Force (STF) Assam, in collaboration with Cachar Police, orchestrated the operation, marking the state's largest-ever drug haul.

Following the seizure, law enforcement apprehended one individual linked to the illicit drug trade.

An intensive investigation has been launched to dismantle the supply network facilitating the distribution of narcotics.

Commending the successful operation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa assured the state's commitment to eradicating drug menace.

He lauded the collaborative effort between STF Assam and Cachar Police in curbing illegal drug activities.

The Assam Chief Minister took to X and stated, "In a big step towards a Drugs Free Assam, 21kg of heroin has been seized in Silchar in a joint operation by STF Assam & Cachar Police. One person has been arrested and an investigation is underway to crack the supply grid. Well done Assam Police."

The breakthrough came after the STF Assam, acting on actionable intelligence, intercepted a vehicle near Sahidpur, falling under the jurisdiction of Silchar police station in Cachar district.

The apprehended individual, identified as Laldinuwa, was operating the vehicle transporting the illicit drugs.

Reports indicate that the contraband originated from Aizawl, concealed beneath containers of bread and biscuits within the vehicle's cargo area.

Authorities had been tipped off about the massive drug consignment ten days prior to the operation.

According to Inspector General of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta, head of Assam STF, the intercepted drugs were intended to be trafficked from a neighboring state into the mainland and subsequently supplied to major cities.

The estimated value of the entire consignment is projected to reach Rs 540 crore, amplifying concerns over the scale of illicit drug trade operations in the region.
