A head teacher at a government school in Assam’s Karimganj district has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly forcing a female student to watch pornography in the classroom.
The case was registered on August 12, following claims from the student’s family.
According to reports, the girl initially hesitated to disclose the incident but eventually informed her mother about the distressing experience.
She alleged that the teacher not only coerced her into watching explicit material but also touched her inappropriately.
Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das confirmed that the teacher fled when locals, angered by the allegations, attempted to confront him.
The protest escalated as demonstrators vandalised and set fire to the school. Das noted that the police are also investigating the destruction of government property caused by the protesters.
In response to the incident, local residents expressed deep concern, questioning the reliability of educational institutions.
“We send our children to school for education and safety, not to face such egregious behaviour from those who are supposed to be role models,” a local resident said on condition of anonymity.
