Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that projects worth around Rs 1.78 lakh crore, committed during the state’s investment summit earlier this year, will be rolled out by December.
Speaking at a ceremony in Guwahati to lay the foundation stones for three major ventures, Medanta Super Speciality Hospital by Global Health Limited, Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital by RJ Corp Healthcare, and a five-star Lemon Tree hotel, Sarma said the inflow of investments would create substantial employment opportunities for Assam’s youth.
He said the government had succeeded in projecting a new image of the state, and that investment pledges made at Advantage Assam 2.0 were now taking shape. A thermal power project worth Rs 40,000 crore would soon begin work, he added.
According to the chief minister, multiple palm storage projects totalling Rs 30,000 crore, along with other ventures, will be launched by December, taking the cumulative value of projects to nearly Rs 1.78 lakh crore.

Terming the foundation stone-laying a milestone for Assam’s industrial growth, Sarma said, “Today marks a significant day in the journey of Assam’s industrial development, which will have a far-reaching impact on strengthening the state’s healthcare and hospitality infrastructure.”
The three projects, with a combined investment of around Rs 800 crore, are being set up under MoUs signed during Advantage Assam 2.0 in February. The Medanta facility will come up on 3.5 acres of land, the Cocoon hospital on 1 acre, and the Lemon Tree hotel on 1.75 acres.
Sarma said the integrated complex at Sarusajai, comprising hospitals, a hotel and service apartments, would boost medical tourism in Assam, neighbouring states and parts of Southeast Asia.
He expressed confidence that Assam’s youth would not have to migrate outside the state for jobs in the coming years.
State Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora was also present at the event.
