In an attempt to enter the United States illegally, a man from Punjab's Ajnala died of cardiac arrest in Guatemala as informed by the state's NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Sunday.
Singh, from Ajnala in Punjab, was attempting to cross into the US via a 'dunki' route—a dangerous and unlawful pathway frequently used by migrants. His family reportedly paid ₹16.5 lakh for the journey.
Expressing grief over the death of Gurpreet Singh, Dhaliwal advised the state's youth against attempting illegal migration and urged them to pursue skill education within India.
