An Australian paraglider crashed on Monday evening near Seven Sisters Peak, situated at an altitude of 13,500 feet in the Manali subdivision of Himachal’s Kullu district. He was rescued after 20 hours, officials said.
The paraglider, identified as 51-year-old Andy from Australia, is believed to have met with the accident because of strong air pressure and bad weather conditions, officials added on Tuesday.
Another paraglider flying with him saw the crash and immediately informed the rescue team, asking for help. Both pilots had come from Bir Billing in Kangra district to Manali and were returning to Bir Billing when the accident happened.
A rescue team was sent out on Monday evening to save Andy, who was trapped in a difficult and inaccessible mountain area.
Andy was found lying on a dangerous, narrow ledge on a high mountain and was finally rescued with the help of a helicopter, said Ramesh Kumar Jogi, in-charge of the Manali Adventure Tour Association’s rescue team.
The injured paraglider has been admitted to a hospital for treatment and is now out of danger, Jogi added.
