Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday issued a warning of high-danger avalanche for six districts of the Union Territory after fresh snowfall, according to officials.
They said avalanches with a high-danger level are likely to occur above 2,300 metres in Ganderbal district in Central Kashmir during the next 24 hours. Officials further warned that avalanches with a high-danger level are likely above 2,500 metres in districts, including Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban in the Jammu region, as well as Kupwara in North Kashmir.
Residents have been advised to stay alert and avoid travelling to or entering avalanche-prone areas.
Earlier in the day, officials said most parts of Jammu and Kashmir experienced moderate to heavy snowfall.
