The probe into the alleged theft of donations at Badrinath Dham is continuing, with several people already arrested in connection with the case.

Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Chairman Hemant Dwivedi said the full details of the incident would be known only after the investigation is completed.

“It was an unfortunate incident, but the government and the temple committee acted promptly. Several people have been arrested and those suspected to be involved are being investigated,” Dwivedi said.

He said an inquiry committee has also been formed to look into the matter. Action will be taken against anyone found responsible, he added.

“The accused will not be spared at any cost. The investigation is still in progress, so we should wait for the report,” the chairman said. Dwivedi said the temple committee has prepared a detailed plan to prevent such incidents in the future. The plan also focuses on improving security and bringing greater transparency to temple facilities.

Under the proposed security upgrade, high-tech, high-resolution CCTV cameras will be installed at sensitive points across Badrinath Dham.

“We will install high-tech, high-resolution cameras at all sensitive locations. The system will work through a cloud-based network,” Dwivedi said. He said the current surveillance system includes two-megapixel and six-megapixel cameras. These will be replaced or upgraded with higher-resolution equipment.

The footage will be stored securely through a cloud-based system, he said. The committee is also considering increasing the overall storage capacity of the surveillance network.

According to Dwivedi, the upgraded system will improve security at the temple premises, protect pilgrims and bring greater transparency to temple operations. He also said the temple committee is preparing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which will be implemented soon.

The SOP is among the steps being taken after the alleged theft. It is intended to create a clearer and more organised system for security, monitoring and handling of temple facilities.

Dwivedi reiterated that the investigation will establish what exactly happened and determine the role of those allegedly involved. He said the committee’s immediate priority is to complete the inquiry while also putting stronger safeguards in place to prevent similar incidents.

The alleged theft has raised concerns about the security of donations and the overall management of temple facilities at Badrinath Dham. Dwivedi said the new security measures would be introduced once the proposed blueprint and SOP are finalised.

The investigation is still in progress. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry, he said.
