Days after violent clashes erupted in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government has taken action against police officials.

The SHO of Hardi police station and the officer in charge of the Mahsi area have been removed from their posts. Additionally, CO Mahsi Rupendra Gaur has also been dismissed, with CO Ravi Khokhar of Rampur taking over his duties.

On Tuesday, CM Adityanath emphasised the government’s commitment to justice for the victim's family and assured that the perpetrators would face consequences.

He met with the victim's family in Lucknow and announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh, a house under the PM Awas Yojana, and an Antyodaya card for them.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident and promised stringent action against those responsible.

The violence occurred during a Durga idol immersion procession in the Mahasi area, leading to the death of one person and injuries to several others.

The situation escalated when the procession passed through a predominantly Muslim area, resulting in a dispute between two communities.

Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla reported that tensions flared during the procession, which resulted in gunfire.

Following the unrest, police conducted route marches to restore order.
