The Counter Intelligence unit of Punjab visited the residence of Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday to question him over his recent remarks regarding the presence of hand grenades in the state.
The comments, which he made during a media interview, have raised concerns about a potential threat to national security.
AIG Counter Intelligence Ravjot Grewal stated that Bajwa’s disclosure involved sensitive information and posed serious implications for national security. According to her, Bajwa claimed in the interview that 50 hand grenades had entered Punjab, with 32 reportedly in circulation.
Grewal said the Counter Intelligence team needed to determine the origin of this information, but Bajwa was uncooperative during the questioning.
“We asked very clear and specific questions about the source of the information,” Grewal said. “However, he refused to answer. We will get to the bottom of this.”
Despite the allegations of non-cooperation, Partap Singh Bajwa maintained that he had already informed the Counter Intelligence team of everything he knew and had no intention of revealing his sources. He emphasized that the information was shared with him by someone who believed he should remain alert due to his position.
“My source told me that I am in an important position, so I should stay aware,” Bajwa said. “I have fully cooperated and will fully cooperate with the Counter Intelligence team. Our duty is to protect the people and assist the Punjab government. I told the AIG whatever I could, but I will not reveal my sources.”
