The decision was taken after reports surfaced about possible misuse of the uniform. Officials said such misuse could allow anti-social elements to pose as Army personnel, creating serious security risks that need to be prevented.

In view of security concerns and prevent cases of impersonation and misuse, the Udhampur administration on Tuesday barred the unauthorised sale of the newly introduced Indian Army camouflage uniform.

The decision was taken after reports surfaced about possible misuse of the uniform. Officials said such misuse could allow anti-social elements to pose as Army personnel, creating serious security risks that need to be prevented.

District Magistrate Minga Sherpa, who passed the order, said Udhampur has a strong military presence and is located near important defence establishments, including the Northern Command headquarters, making the matter highly sensitive. He told mediapersons that the administration has formally prohibited the sale of the new pattern camouflage uniform of the Indian Army within the district.

The District Magistrate said the restriction aims to stop impersonation and ensure that authorised uniforms and fabric are used only by legitimate service personnel, reducing the chances of misuse. He added that several army-related shops operate in the district because of the large number of Army personnel posted in the area, which made it necessary to impose the restriction.

The administration has ordered that no unauthorised shop will be allowed to sell the newly designed camouflage fabric or uniforms used by armed forces personnel. Enforcement teams have been asked to monitor the situation closely and take action against violators.

The District Magistrate said Station House Officers concerned have been instructed to ensure that no shop sells fabric that could be used by individuals to impersonate Army personnel in Udhampur.

Authorities have also urged residents to stay alert and immediately inform the administration or police if they notice any illegal sale or misuse of Army-pattern uniforms.
