A BJP leader from the region has approached Punjab Police seeking a ban on Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh’s latest song "Asla". He alleged that it promoted gun culture and glorified weapons. Arvind Sharma, co-convener of the Punjab BJP Trade Cell, has sent a formal letter to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, raising objections over the song.

In his letter, the BJP leader has demanded immediate removal of the track from all digital and social media platforms. He said the Punjab government had already banned songs that promoted weapons, violence and gun culture.

Despite this policy, the track ‘Asla’ has been released across multiple digital platforms, which not only violates government guidelines but also encourages young people to take up weapons and violence, he wrote.

Sharma pointed out that Punjab was already facing serious challenges, such as drug addiction, gang wars and the spread of illegal weapons. In such conditions, he said, songs that glorified weapons pushed the youth toward crime and violence, created fear and instability in society, and undermined the efforts of police and civil authorities to maintain law and order.

Sharma requested the DGP to ensure that the song was removed from all digital, social media and music platforms. He also called for strict guidelines for online platforms to prevent the release of content that promoted weapons and violence in the future.
