The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended a Bangladeshi national near the International Border in the Gajansoo area of Jammu district, officials said on Tuesday. The intruder was later handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for further legal action.
The intruder was taken into custody by BSF personnel during routine surveillance along the border and subsequently produced before the Border Police Post Gajansoo, falling under Police Station Kanachak.
Police identified the arrested person as Shariful Islam Bhuiyan, son of Mozibul Haque Bhuiyan, aged 19, a resident of the Adra area in Comilla district of Bangladesh.
After completing the official formalities, the BSF handed him over to the police for legal action, officials said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police said that the questioning of the individual is underway to ascertain the circumstances under which he crossed the International Border and to verify other related details. Further investigation is in progress.
Separately, during a year-end press briefing, a senior J&K police official said the police conducted 541 cordon-and-search operations and 1,093 long-range patrols in 2025.
The Senior Superintendent of Police for the Jammu division said 4,134 FIRs were registered during the year, the lowest in the last five years, reflecting effective preventive policing.
Singh said, “The police ensured that security and anti-terror measures remained in force throughout the year. There is no active terrorist presence in the Jammu district. To maintain this security environment, 541 cordon-and-search operations and 1,093 long-range patrols were conducted during the year.”
“The reduction of 288 cases (since last year) was attributed to preventive action, the Public Safety Act and PIT-NDPS detentions, and proactive bail contesting, preliminary enquiries under BNSS, adding, ‘Police disposed of 5,122 cases, including 1,968 old and 3,154 new ones,” he added.
