West Bengal's class 10 board exams witnessed a heartening success rate this year, with 86.31% of students emerging victorious. This figure marks a slight improvement from the previous year's 86.15% pass rate.
Over 9.12 lakh students appeared for the exams, with females (5,08,698) outperforming males (4,03,900) by a significant 25%.
This achievement highlights the state's commitment to bridging the gender gap in education.
Leading the pack was Chandrachur Sen, a student from Cooch Behar district's Rambhola High School. Sen secured a remarkable 99% (693 marks), securing the coveted top rank. Following closely behind was Samyapriyo Guru of Purulia Zilla School with 98.86% (692 marks).
The third position saw a three-way tie, with Udayan Prasad (Balurghat High School), Puspita Basuri (New Integrated Government School, Ilambazar), and Nairit Ranjan Pal (Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission) all achieving an impressive 98.71% (691 marks) each.
Geographically, the success story extends beyond Kolkata. Districts like Cooch Behar, Purulia, Dakshin Dinajpur, and Birbhum emerged as strong contenders, showcasing a well-distributed academic performance across the state.
Notably, Kalimpong topped the district rankings with a staggering 96.26% pass rate, followed by Purba Medinipur (95.49%) and Kolkata (91.62%). Somdatta Samanta of Kolkata's Kamala Girls School secured a commendable 97.71% (684 marks), finding a place among the top 10 candidates.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her warm wishes to the successful students, their families, and teachers.
"The consistent outperformance of students from districts beyond Kolkata indicates the state's success in expanding quality education beyond metropolitan areas," remarked West Bengal Board of Secondary Examination president Ramanuj Ganguly.
Sushanta Sen, the proud father of topper Chandrachur Sen, revealed his son's aspirations to pursue a career in medicine. He further elaborated that Chandrachur wasn't a slave to a rigid study schedule, prioritizing focused learning over extended hours.
