Upon arrival, officers from Islampur Police Station opened the bag and found the mutilated body of an elderly man, cut into pieces and placed inside.

In a chilling repeat of a Kolkata case earlier this year, panic gripped West Bengal once again after a dismembered body was discovered stuffed inside a trolley bag in the Sona Khoda area under the North Dinajpur’s Islampur police station area on Friday.

The gruesome discovery was made near a cornfield adjacent to a bypass road. According to local sources, a resident first noticed an unattended trolley bag lying beside the field and, upon suspicion, alerted others. A crowd quickly gathered and police were called to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers from Islampur Police Station opened the bag and found the mutilated body of an elderly man, cut into pieces and placed inside. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and police are working to establish it.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, which has never witnessed such a brutal crime in the area before. Locals speculate that the body may have been dumped during the night or early morning by someone from outside the area, as no one from the locality could recognise the victim.

Police officials are examining the area for forensic clues and CCTV footage from nearby locations to track any suspicious movement. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of the crime being committed elsewhere and the body being disposed of in the relatively isolated field.

This case echoes an earlier incident from Kolkata earlier this year, where a similar trolley bag was found containing a dead body. In that case, the accused were caught by locals while attempting to dump the bag into the Ganges River, prompting a statewide conversation on rising brutality and the disturbing trend of bodies being concealed in luggage.

The Uttar Dinajpur police have launched a full-scale investigation and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
