Tension gripped Nagortala village under the Jibantala Police Station area after a housewife was brutally attacked late Wednesday night, shortly after polling concluded. The victim, identified as Rozina Molla, is currently in critical condition.
According to local sources, Rozina was alone at home when the incident occurred, as other members of her family were away. Taking advantage of the situation, a group of unidentified miscreants allegedly forced their way into the house. Before she could react, the attackers assaulted her with sharp-edged weapons, striking multiple blows across her body, including her head, before fleeing the scene.
Severely injured, Rozina collapsed inside her home. Her screams alerted neighbors, who rushed to her aid and immediately transported her to Canning Sub-divisional Hospital. However, as her condition worsened due to excessive blood loss and critical head injuries, doctors referred her to Chittaranjan Hospital in Kolkata, where she is currently undergoing treatment under intensive observation. Hospital sources describe her condition as critical.
The incident has triggered widespread fear and panic in Nagortala village, with residents raising serious concerns about security in the area. Family members of the victim expressed shock, stating that Rozina had no known enmity with anyone. “We cannot understand who could have done this. We have filed a complaint and demand immediate arrest of those responsible,” a relative said.
Some locals claimed that suspicious movements of unknown individuals had been noticed in the area in recent days, though no one anticipated such a violent act. The attack, occurring immediately after elections, has further intensified public anxiety.
Police at Jibantala Police Station have launched an investigation and are examining all possible angles, including whether the assault was premeditated or linked to a personal dispute. Surveillance has been heightened, and search operations are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits. Officials confirmed that evidence has been collected from the scene and that locals are being questioned as part of the probe.
