Residents of Baguiati in North 24 Parganas woke up to a shocking discovery on Tuesday morning after a young woman's body was found stuffed inside a black trolley bag abandoned in a roadside drain. Locals spotted the suspicious bag and immediately informed the police.
The police opened the bag and found the woman's body.
“Her face was wrapped in brown tape, indicating a possible case of murder. Initial investigations suggest that the woman may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the site,” said a police officer.
Investigators are now working to identify the victim. CCTV footage from the area is being examined and police are checking for any missing person reports in nearby localities. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The incident has drawn chilling parallels to a similar case from February near Kumartuli Ghat in Kolkata. In that case, Falguni Ghosh and her mother Aarti were caught carrying a trolley bag that contained the dismembered body of their relative, Sumita Ghosh.
Police investigations revealed that the mother-daughter duo, residents of Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas, had allegedly murdered Sumita, cut up her body and packed it in the trolley. Their plan was to dispose of the body by dumping the trolley into the Ganges. However, they were caught near Kumartuli before they could carry out the plan.
