Bengaluru records second hottest day in 50 days at 38.5° Celsius

Bengaluru is under the grip of extreme weather conditions as the otherwise cool and pleasant city recorded a temperature of 38.5 degrees Celcius on Sunday, April 28.

 

April 25, 2016, was the city’s hottest day in 50 years, with 39.2 degrees Celsius. Sunday was also the hottest this year, surpassing the 37.2 degrees Celsius recorded on April 2.

 

Residents are unlikely to receive any respite soon from the heatwave-like conditions. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted no significant change in weather on Monday. According to IMD, the city's maximum and minimum temperatures will likely remain around 38 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius on Monday.

 

On Sunday, April 28, the IT capital recorded a 4.4 degrees Celsius rise in its temperature above normal temperature. 

 

“Mainly Clear Sky. Maximum & Minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 38°C and 23°C respectively for the Next 48 hours," said Meteorological Centre Bengaluru in its daily weather report. 

 

Southern India is under the grip of extreme heatwave-like conditions. The MeT department has issued a heatwave warning for Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till April 30.
