Day-long Bharat Bandh did not see much impact in Punjab, Haryana, despite protests being carried out in different parts of the states on Wednesday. Bharat Bandh was called out by some Dalit and Adivasi groups against the Supreme Court's verdict on sub-classification of Scheduled Castes.

Security measurements were in place for both states, the police officials stated.

Public transport, shops, and other commercial establishments were seen functioning normally in Phagwara, Punjab, however, some educational institutions were closed.

In Punjab, Phagwara saw some educational institutions closed as a precaution, while activists staged a protest march and dharna. Jalandhar and Ludhiana witnessed normalcy, with shops and schools open as usual. Hoshiarpur district remained unaffected, with a small protest by Bahujan Samaj Party workers and Dalit outfits.

Meanwhile in Haryana's Hisar, a limited protest march by Dalit community members was seen, while Ambala remained unaffected by Bharat Bandh.

Supreme Court's August 1 order, allowing states to make sub-classifications within SCs for reservation, was met with opposition from organisations claiming it would harm reservation principles.
