The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar detained five individuals on Sunday in connection with the bomb attack that recently occurred near Kendriya Vidyalaya-3 (KV-3) in the Odisha Capital. Mancheswar Police are questioning the suspects, using CCTV footage and intelligence provided by local residents.
The police team is being assisted in the investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The explosion took place on Friday (November 28) morning near the Gadakana locality, at a time when President Droupadi Murmu was visiting Odisha and was present in the State Capital.
With most major Indian cities already on high alert following the recent explosion in New Delhi, the Bhubaneswar case was handled with heightened seriousness.
The NIA has stepped up its investigation, while a forensic team conducted an intensive on-site examination. Gunpowder, metal spikes, broken glass, and other materials were subsequently recovered from the scene.
Residents alleged that insufficient patrolling in the locality has led to an increase in anti-social behaviour. They also claimed that the presence of intoxicated individuals around the school has been rising, raising new concerns over student safety.
It is worth noting that some unidentified suspects on a motorcycle hurled a crude bomb at the Gadakana locality near Kendriya Vidyalaya-3 at around 8.00 AM. The serious incident took place near Gate No. 3 of the school.
The timing raised significant concerns, as approximately 1,000 to 1,500 students typically enter through Gate No. 3 between 7.30 AM and 7.45 AM on a normal day. Fortunately, the exact spot was deserted at the moment of the explosion.
