There were at least 47 key proposals approved in a high-level cabinet meeting chaired by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday. These included new government job openings, large-scale infrastructure projects, and other important policy decisions.
The most significant has been the approval of the creation of 4,858 new posts across various government departments, mainly to improve administrative efficiency and public service delivery.
Among the infrastructure projects, a ₹1,320 crore plan was approved for setting up sewerage network projects in Sasaram, Aurangabad, and Siwan.
To address water supply shortage, a ₹328 crore water supply scheme received clearance for Ara, Siwan, and Sasaram cities, also slated to improve urban utility services.
A new Bridge Maintenance Policy was announced, which would ensure regular inspection, safety checks, and timely repairs of bridges across the state.
The cabinet also approved the cutting-down of Value-Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) in Bihar from 29 per cent to 4 per cent, aimed at boosting air connectivity. Additionally, a dry dock would be constructed in Dujra, Patna, to repair aircraft, making it the first such unit in the region.
Women’s empowerment has also been addressed in the cabinet meeting with the decision of “Jeevika Didis” (members of the state’s women’s self-help groups) preparing clothes for children at Anganwadi centres.
The areas of Phulwari Sharif, Danapur, and Khagol near the capital of Patna will be expanded, and many villages will become part of these cities.
Earlier, on Friday, Prime Miniter Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation of multiple development projects worth over ₹48,520 crore in the state – most importantly the Stage-II (3x800 MW) of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad district, valued at over ₹29,930 crore. He was joined by CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Samrat Chowdhary.
Praising the union government under PM Modi, Nitish had endorsed the Centre’s decision to conduct caste-based census.
Saying his government was paying special attention towards the health sector, Nitish added that their aim was to connect each household with roads. Other developmental works, he said, including construction of new houses and settlements, would be completed by June, 2025.
