Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary attended the Nari Shakti Vandan Abhiyan programme in Patna on Friday, a move intended to highlight the government's push for women-led development and public involvement in the 'Viksit Bharat' initiative.
In the course of the function, Choudhary launched the ‘Nari Shakti for Viksit Bharat’ race, a move that was quite timely considering that an important special session of Parliament is currently ongoing which started from April 16 and will continue till 18, during which time the legislators will discuss the issues pertaining to the representation of women and the delimitation process.
Commenting on the sidelines of the event, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shreyasi Singh described the event as "historical,” acknowledging the role played by Prime Minister Modi in ensuring that the bill is now a reality. “Women have been participating actively as party workers, even voting in the booths. But the focus of the discussion is now on women’s representation.”
The event in Patna is part of a broader nationwide "Nari Shakti Vandan Run" organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The initiative is being rolled out across seven major cities between now and April 18. While Patna and Jaipur held their events on Friday, similar runs are set to take place in Delhi, Cuttack, Mumbai, Indore, and Bengaluru on April 18.
