Three policemen in Bihar were arrested for hiding 16 seized bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) inside Sultanganj police station, despite the state’s strict ban on alcohol.
A fourth person, not connected to the police, was also arrested in the case, officials said.
The incident came to light after police stopped a vehicle carrying 46 bottles of IMFL near Marine Drive in Patna on January 14. While the suspects were taken to the station, the vehicle and its driver were let go, raising suspicion.
During the investigation, it was discovered that 16 of the seized liquor bottles were missing. The bottles were later found hidden in a bag near a tree inside the police station premises.
The arrested policemen were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Murari Kumar, Constable Nagendra Paswan, and driver Shailesh Kumar, all posted at Sultanganj police station. Departmental action has been initiated against them, said City SP (East) K. Ramdass.
The Bihar government has enforced a liquor ban since 2016, prohibiting the production, sale, and consumption of alcohol across the state.
