The Bihar government has handed over the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium to the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), allowing plans to transform it into a multi-sport complex and an international venue with a capacity of 40,000 seats. The renovation is expected to cost around Rs 400 crore.

The upgraded stadium will feature 76 corporate boxes, VIP accommodation for 250 people, and a variety of sports facilities, including a badminton court, volleyball court, swimming pool, a five-star hotel, a fully-equipped players' hostel, restaurants, a clubhouse, and other modern amenities.

Construction is set to start early next year, with a completion target of 2027.

BCA President Rakesh Kumar Tiwari expressed confidence that the BCA will quickly begin construction and deliver a world-class stadium for the people of Bihar to enjoy international matches in two to three years.

As part of the agreement, the state government has waived the land registry fee of about Rs 37 crore. The registry documents were signed by Mahendra Kumar, the director of the sports department, and BCA President Tiwari, with other officials in attendance, including the deputy director of the sports department and the district sports officer.

This development follows an agreement between the state government and the BCA signed on November 6.

The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, currently with a capacity of 25,000, last hosted an international match on December 22, 1997, during the Women's World Cup between India and South Africa.

The stadium has also hosted other notable international matches, including those during the 1996 World Cup and various tests and one-day internationals.

The stadium is named after Moin-ul-Haq, a founding member of the BCA and the first President of the All India Football Federation.
