An unidentified man riding a motorcycle reportedly threw acid on a 40-year-old woman labourer in Ludhiana, leaving her injured, the police said on Tuesday. The incident took place in Dugri Colony of Ludhiana. The victim is originally from Uttar Pradesh and is a mother of three children.
Police said the assailant called the woman towards him on the pretext of asking something. As she approached, he allegedly threw acid on her. Her face and eyes were badly affected in the attack. She was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. The accused, who was wearing a helmet, fled from the spot.
Police said CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify him. “We are using all available resources to identify and arrest the accused,” DCP Jaskaranjit Singh Teja stated.
The search operation is underway. Police have appealed to the public to share any information that could help trace the attacker.
