Bilaspur will be developed as a major centre for water sports and work is in progress to identify suitable sites for the project, district's Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar said on Friday.
During a meeting of the Society for Tourism, Sports, Trade and Employment Generation, the DC reviewed progress in tourism, sports, trade, and self-employment. He shared that potential water sports sites are being identified between Bilaspur city and Bhakra Dam.
The DC asked SDM Shri Naina Devi ji Dharmapal to explore water sports possibilities in the Nakarana area near Bhakra Dam. He said this spot could attract both devotees visiting Shri Naina Devi Temple and tourists coming to Bhakra Dam.
Since the water level in the area remains stable throughout the year, activities can be held regularly. The Tourism Department and local administration have been told to carry out joint inspections of the sites, said a statement from his office.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the officials of the Tourism Department to complete all formalities regarding the possibilities of construction of a glass bridge in Mandi Bharadi area so that the place becomes a major tourism attraction.
He asked the department to organise large-scale competitions to put Bilaspur on the national and international tourism map. He also said efforts should be made to host national and international events in the near future.
