A viral social media post linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed the alleged killing of Haryana gangster Bhanu Rana in California, United States, with official confirmation still pending.
In the post, shared through accounts believed to be connected to the gang, the attackers stated that they had earlier announced plans to eliminate Bhanu Rana. The message claimed that anyone working against the country would be targeted regardless of where they hide. The post described Rana as a “traitor” and accused him of sharing information with rival criminal networks. It also carried a warning that those supporting enemies of the country should remain alert as “death can come anytime.”
The social media claim has raised serious concerns, but its authenticity and the alleged killing have not been independently verified so far. A youth from Karnal, at present, living in California allegedly said there has been no local confirmation of such an incident, raising doubts over the gang’s claim.
Rana, who hails from Karnal district, had a long criminal background. Police records show his name first appeared in 2015 in assault-related cases. In 2018, he was booked for illegal possession of arms and involvement in violent clashes. Over the years, he was allegedly connected to extortion cases targeting traders, jewellers and immigration businesses. Several firing and shootout incidents between 2020 and 2022 further strengthened his presence in organised crime modules.
According to investigating officers, Rana was earlier linked to the Bishnoi gang but later distanced himself and allegedly joined rival groups, which may have made him a target. In 2023, he is believed to have fled to the US using fake documents. Haryana STF had also apprehended some of his associates in June 2025 with hand grenades, exposing links to a wider arms supply network.
The latest claim points to the growing international reach of Indian organised crime networks. Officials said confirmation about Rana’s alleged killing will depend on information received from US authorities and further inquiry.
