Death threats have been issued to Punjab Advocate General Maninderjit Singh Bedi after the government cracked down on content linked to gangster culture, including blocking the trailer of 'Lawrence of Punjab', a web series said to be inspired by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Bishnoi is presently in the high-security Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, facing multiple cases, including murder, extortion, and drug trafficking. Police officials have said that Bedi has received two threat messages, one earlier and another recently, which has raised concerns about his security during the ongoing crackdown.
Earlier, the Centre had asked ZEE5 to remove or block access to the trailer of Lawrence of Punjab, citing concerns that the content was glorifying gangster culture and could have a negative social impact.
The order was part of a wider effort to stop online content linked to figures like Bishnoi, with authorities warning that such material could influence young people and encourage organised crime networks
