The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has threatened former Deputy Chief Minister and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa after he spoke out against the release of the documentary “Lawrence of Punjab". Randhawa, one of the few leaders who called for a ban on the web series, said he had informed Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav about the threat.
He alleged that the gangsters were operating with the “patronage of central agencies” and questioned the authorities’ conduct, asking how a gangster behind bars is able to exert such influence and carry out activities from prison.
Randhawa also questioned how gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, lodged in Dibrugarh Jail, is openly using a mobile phone.
Similar threat messages have been sent to several other prominent Punjab leaders, including Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, and Balkaur Singh, father of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala.
Following the threats, Warring said the Punjab Congress would continue its fight against the gangsters and added that the party would make sure “Punjab is free of this gangster culture”.
He said it was only after Punjab leaders raised objections and following public outrage that the Government of India moved to ban the release.
Bishnoi, despite being behind bars, remains one of the most influential gangster leaders, especially after the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
