BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidate from Rajasthan, Ravneet Singh Bittu, dismissed claims of widespread discontent among Punjab's farmers towards the saffron party, labelling it as propaganda.
Addressing the media after filing his nomination papers, Bittu asserted that Punjab's farmers are content with the BJP, but certain farmer leaders are "misleading" the public to serve their own interests.
"An atmosphere is being created in the country that the farmers in Punjab are angry with the BJP. Farmers in Punjab are happy with the BJP but a few farmer leaders are spreading this propaganda to fill their pockets and mislead farmers," Bittu told media persons after filing his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls in the state.
Bittu further predicted that the BJP would secure a government in Haryana after the upcoming assembly elections and in Punjab by 2027.
He insisted that this propaganda is being fueled by a few leaders who are attempting to fill their pockets at the expense of the truth.
"There’s an planned effort to portray Punjab's farmers as angry with the BJP, but in reality, they are supportive of the party. A few leaders, however, are spreading these false narratives to deceive the farming community," Bittu stated.
The Rajya Sabha elections in Rajasthan, scheduled for September 3 if necessary, have become a focal point. With one seat vacant and a split of 10 total seats between the BJP and Congress, the race is heating up.
Bittu also censured the narrative that farmer leaders are being blocked from entering Delhi, noting that while some claim they are denied access, they were able to meet with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Parliament.
He said that only those carrying weapons or intending harm would be stopped.
Discussing Punjab's current state, Bittu expressed concern over the stalling of national projects due to opposition from certain farmer leaders.
He claimed that while farmers are willing to provide land for highways, airports, and railways, these leaders are obstructing progress, leading to economic stagnation and the exodus of businesses from the state.
