An IndiGo aircraft brushed against the wings of an Air India Express plane at Kolkata Airport on Wednesday, resulting in damage to both aircraft's wingtips, according to officials.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation into the incident and has de-rostered the IndiGo pilots involved, sources revealed.
The incident occurred on the taxiway adjacent to the airport's runway at approximately 11 am, airport sources disclosed.
While the Air India Express aircraft was set for departure to Chennai from Kolkata, the IndiGo aircraft was slated for a journey to Darbhanga.
Passengers were reportedly on board both planes when the incident occurred. Fortunately, no injuries to passengers or crew members were reported.
In a statement, the Airports Authority of India highlighted that the wingtip vortices of both aircraft suffered significant damage.
