Political temperatures soared in Ranchi on Tuesday after supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress engaged in a heated face-off outside the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee office amid protests over the alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Preliminary Examination.
The protest began with thousands of BJP Yuva Morcha activists gathering outside the JPSC headquarters to demand action over the alleged examination lapses.
The demonstrators later marched towards the Congress office, where a large contingent of police had already been stationed. Barricades were placed around the premises to prevent the protesters from entering the Congress headquarters. Tension escalated when workers from both political parties assembled outside the office and exchanged slogans while accusing each other over recruitment examination controversies.
BJP leaders targeted the state government over the JPSC issue, while Congress workers hit back by raising the NEET paper leak controversy at the national level. Police personnel quickly intervened, creating a buffer between the two groups and preventing the confrontation from turning violent.
Officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control without any reports of serious injuries or damage to property.
BJP Yuva Morcha state president Shashank Raj alleged that the state government had failed to safeguard the interests of lakhs of job aspirants and demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the alleged irregularities in the JPSC examination. He also sought stringent action against those responsible if the allegations were found to be true.
Congress leader Shahbaz countered the BJP's charges, stating that JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte had already tendered his resignation to the government. He described the BJP's agitation as politically driven and shifted the focus to the NEET paper leak case, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on moral grounds.
Security remained tight around the Congress office throughout the protest as authorities maintained a heavy police presence to avoid any further escalation. The incident has added fresh intensity to the political battle over recruitment examinations in Jharkhand.
