Assam CM Himanta Biswas Sarma and Diplu Ranjan Sarma celebrate BJP's landslide victory in Samaguri, ending Congress's 24-year dominance in the constituency.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated the BJP’s resounding victory in the Samaguri constituency, where Diplu Ranjan Sarma defeated Congress candidate Tanzil Hussain by a significant margin, marking the end of Congress’s 24-year reign.

BJP candidate Diplu Ranjan Sarma secured the seat with a margin of 26,200 votes against Tanzil Hussain, son of veteran Congress leader and Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain.

The result is a significant shift in a constituency long dominated by Congress.

Expressing his delight, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed the win a "special victory," highlighting the demographic challenge posed by the constituency's 65–70 per cent minority voter base.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sarma wrote, “A special victory in Samaguri by-election! Won by 27,000 votes despite 65-70% minority voters, ending Congress’s 24-year hold.” He attributed the win to the BJP’s policy of "appeasement to none, justice for all," further aligning it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas.

The victory highlights BJP's robust strategy and outreach, breaking what was perceived as an impenetrable Congress bastion.

The seat has historically been a stronghold of the Congress, with Tanzil Hussain’s father, Rakibul Hussain, commanding significant influence in the region.

The by-election witnessed aggressive campaigning by BJP leaders, coupled with a focus on inclusive development policies. Analysts view this victory as a testament to the BJP's growing influence in traditionally Congress-dominated regions.
