Over 11 lakh in Jharkhand deprived of pensions since September.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Jharkhand unit has criticised the INDIA bloc government in the state for its failure to distribute old age, widow, and disability pensions to 11.81 lakh beneficiaries.

Former minister Amar Kumar Bauri stated in a social media post that over 11 lakh beneficiaries in Jharkhand have not received their pensions since September 2024. He noted that the government’s inefficiency has deprived the poor and senior citizens of their rightful pensions.

Bauri alleged that the government has not taken steps to resolve the issue and has shown negligence in pension distribution. He highlighted on X that 11.81 lakh beneficiaries have been left without pensions for several months.

He further explained that utility certificates are required to be submitted every three months. However, due to the negligence of the Social Welfare Department, countless elderly, widows, and disabled individuals have been left without their pensions.

Bauri questioned the government’s priorities, asking whether the 11.81 lakh poor and needy individuals are not a priority. He criticised the government for its failure to submit the required certificates on time, which has led to the disruption of pension distribution.

The Hemant Soren-led government has notably focused on the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojna (JMMSY) even before the assembly elections. The initial instalments of the JMMSY were reportedly disbursed from the state’s emergency funds, as no provisions had been made in the annual budget.

This lack of budgetary provision has adversely impacted the regular pension distribution process, leaving the Social Welfare Department unable to manage its obligations effectively.
