BJP, JMM spar over Jharkhand Mahila Samman Yojana

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party are trading blows over the recently launched ‘Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ (JMMSY), which aims to provide Rs 1000 honorarium every month to women between 21 and 50 years of age belonging to BPL category.

While the JMM has termed the scheme a revolutionary step for the empowerment of women in the State, the BJP has warned women of the State not to fall into the trap laid by the JMM.

The JMM said on Tuesday that the BJP has completely been rattled by the popular scheme of the government. The BJP has an old plan to create misunderstanding and confusion about any scheme of the State government, said the JMM spokesperson.

“These people are spreading baseless things at many places about the JMMSY. But, the fact is that the state government will provide Rs 12000 every year to about 50 lakh women of the state through this scheme. This has created panic within the State BJP unit,” said JMM Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya.

On the other hand, the BJP raised questions on the government's record of implementation of schemes. State BJP Spokesperson Pratul Shahdev said that the government, which has not been able to give an unemployment allowance of Rs 5000 as announced by it in the 2019 election manifesto, should not boast about another scheme that is going to fail.

“There is chaos in the state. Law and order have collapsed. To divert attention from all this, Chief Minister Hemant Soren brought the 'Maiyaan Samman Yojana' without any preparation. In the first four days itself, the intention of the government towards this scheme was exposed. Servers are down in most places. Middlemen are dominating. Forms are not being submitted. This clearly shows that the government's haste in view of the elections has led to a big mess,” he added.

The BJP Spokesperson said that the JMM does not even remember the promises made in its Manifesto, in which it had promised that women will get Rs 2000 per month as stove expenses. Pratul said that this shows the insensitivity of this government and party towards women.
