The Bharatiya Janata Party has launched a statewide initiative to gather public suggestions for its election manifesto ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. The initiative, titled  ‘Sankalp Patra Paramarsha Yatra’, began from the party’s state office in Salt Lake on Saturday.

Through the programme, the party aims to prepare its manifesto based on direct feedback from citizens. BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya said drop boxes would be placed at 1,000 locations across the state till February 18 to collect suggestions from voters.

“People can write and submit their suggestions there. They will also be contacted after providing their name, address and phone number,” Bhattacharya said.

He claimed that around 2.38 crore people had voted for the BJP in the 2021 Assembly elections and that many believed the party could bring change to the state. “Therefore, we want to prepare the manifesto with everyone’s opinions,” he added.

Bhattacharya also said special mobile vans would move across Kolkata on February 17 and 18, carrying additional drop boxes to collect public feedback.

To facilitate participation, the party has opened a toll-free number and an email address for voters to submit their suggestions. The BJP said it would also collect opinions through multiple other channels.

The party is giving special importance to issues such as employment for educated youth, industrial investment and overall development. Bhattacharya said suggestions would be sought from industrialists, entrepreneurs and the general public.

He also alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government had failed to restore democracy in the state over the past 15 years, making political change inevitable. He further claimed that the state government had deprived people of 13 central projects. To highlight their benefits, the BJP plans to send 10,000 letters to people from different sections of society and seek their views.

Bhattacharya said political parties often release manifestos at the last moment, prepared by a few leaders without public consultation. “We want to change that practice. The people’s government will be formed based on the people’s opinions,” he said.

The consultation drive will continue across the state over the next few weeks. The BJP claims the initiative will help shape a development agenda reflecting public expectations.
