BJP leader Grewal denounces terror attack on Kapil Sharma’s café

Says violence cannot be justified in the name of hurt sentiments, no civil society should tolerate gunshots as a form of response to a joke or comment

National BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal has strongly condemned the gun attack at comedian Kapil Sharma’s newly opened Kap’s Café in Surrey, Canada, denouncing it as “not just a criminal act but a direct act of terror”.

Stating that eight to nine rounds were fired at the restaurant, Grewal said it is absolutely shameful and unacceptable that a peaceful business in Canada has come under fire from pro-Khalistani terrorist and gangster Harjit Singh Laddi, who has openly claimed responsibility for the attack. He said these criminals, hiding behind religious sentiments and ideology, are trying to create fear and chaos in the name of religion.

Maintaining that Laddi is no victim or activist, but a wanted terrorist and Babbar Khalsa operative accused of multiple killings, extortion and gang-related violence in both India and Canada, Grewal said these incidents are part of a growing pattern of cross-border terrorism, especially in cities like Surrey and Brampton, where extremists are gaining ground.

“There was no demand for money in this case. Instead, it was clearly an ideological attack based on an old remark allegedly made by Kapil Sharma in one of his comedy shows. Violence cannot be justified in the name of hurt sentiments, and no civil society should tolerate gunshots as a form of response to a joke or comment,” the national BJP leader said.

Grewal urged the Canadian government, police and intelligence agencies to wake up to the growing threat in their own backyard. He warned that if Canada continues to allow these extremists to operate freely on its soil, it will become a global hub for anti-India terror activities.

Asking Canada to stop treating such terror operatives as mere gangsters and take strict legal action against them by way of arrest, prosecution and immediate deportation, Grewal said, “Kapil Sharma and every Indian in Canada deserves safety, freedom and dignity without the threat of bullets or intimidation from radical groups. In a civilised society, disagreement must be expressed through legal channels, not guns. It is the responsibility of every democratic nation to protect comedians, artists and public figures from violent threats.”
