Two unidentified persons hurled a petrol bomb at the clinic of a homoeopathic doctor, who is also a local BJP leader, in Punjab’s Bathinda district, police officials said on Tuesday.
Officials said no one was injured in the incident, which took place on Monday night. Tarsem Garg runs a clinic on Mela Ram Road in Bathinda. His family had recently joined the BJP after quitting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Two unidentified men, who had come on foot, allegedly threw an ignited petrol-filled bottle at the clinic located in Vishal Nagar on Mela Ram Road. The clinic is situated opposite the office of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
While interacting with the media, Garg said he received a call informing him that a petrol bomb had been hurled at his clinic.
A scooter parked outside the clinic caught fire, but before Garg could reach the spot, staff members present there had already doused the flames. The unidentified men fled after leaving behind another bottle filled with petrol outside the clinic.
Shortly after the incident, senior police officers, including Deputy Inspector General Harjit Singh and Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Jyoti Yadav, reached the spot.
Garg reportedly told officials that he had no enmity with anyone and was shocked by the attack on his clinic.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation, while a hunt to nab the accused is underway.
