BJP leaders, including Union ministers, will participate in over a week-long series of events across the country to commemorate Bihar Diwas, marking the state’s formation day on March 22.
These celebrations will take place in nearly 75 locations with a significant population of people from Bihar, highlighting the state’s rich heritage and cultural contributions. This nationwide outreach comes at a crucial time, just months ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, as the BJP aims to strengthen its bond with voters in the state.
The party is a key ally in the Bihar government, partnering with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), and views this initiative as an opportunity to further connect with the migrant population from Bihar, who play an influential role in shaping political opinions due to their strong ties with their home state.
BJP leaders have framed these gatherings as "Sneh Milan," aligning them with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" initiative, which promotes the celebration of India’s diverse culture across different regions.
Party members have been briefed to emphasise Bihar’s historical and cultural legacy (virasat) and showcase the government's developmental efforts (viksit) aimed at making the state more prosperous.
Insisting that similar events have been organised for various states, BJP leaders stated that celebrating the heritage and traditions of all regions is integral to their vision for national unity and cultural pride.
Bihar, which was carved out of the Bengal Presidency in 1912 to become a separate state, has a vast migrant population spread across India. Many Biharis move to different parts of the country for employment and education, and their political influence remains significant due to their continued connection with their families and communities back home.
By organising Bihar Diwas celebrations nationwide, the BJP seeks to engage with this influential group, reinforcing its commitment to Bihar’s development while strengthening its outreach ahead of the upcoming elections.
