Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, accusing him of making derogatory remarks against BJP leaders, alliance partner Tipra Motha, and engaging in what he described as “body-shaming.”
Speaking at the BJP state headquarters in Agartala, Nath demanded a public apology from Chaudhury for his alleged comments. “If he made such statements in a sound mental state, he must apologise. Otherwise, the CPI(M) must take responsibility and ensure he receives proper treatment,” Nath said.
The minister alleged that Chaudhury had used inappropriate and baseless language while criticising the ruling party and its ally, even making indirect jibes at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to Nath, Chaudhury had described the BJP and Tipra Motha as “liars” without any factual basis.
Nath also condemned a specific comment in which Chaudhury allegedly ridiculed tall individuals, implying that they lacked intelligence.
“This is not just an insult to individuals but to national icons,” Nath said, citing actor Amitabh Bachchan, cricketer Ishant Sharma, former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, and Tripura’s former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar as examples of tall individuals who have made outstanding contributions to society.
Further escalating his attack, Nath referenced Chaudhury’s past, alleging that he was removed from the state cabinet during former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s tenure due to various controversies.
He claimed that a file maintained by the late minister Anil Sarkar documented Chaudhury’s alleged involvement in multiple irregularities, including a ginger-related scam.
