Nayab Singh Saini has been unanimously chosen as the leader of the BJP legislature party in Haryana, a decision taken during a meeting on Wednesday.
The newly elected BJP MLAs selected Saini as their leader in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who acted as central observers.
Saini’s name was formally proposed by MLAs Krishan Kumar Bedi and Anil Vij, with the announcement made by Amit Shah himself.
Saini, who succeeded Manohar Lal Khattar as Haryana’s chief minister in March, was also the BJP's chief ministerial candidate during the recent assembly elections.
The BJP clinched a third consecutive term in Haryana, securing 48 seats in the 90-member assembly, while the Congress finished with 37 seats.
Saini is set to take the oath as chief minister on Thursday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expected to attend the ceremony.
