BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who is currently on a three-day visit to Punjab, said on Sunday that the drug menace in the state is a matter of serious concern and must be rooted out completely. Nabin was speaking to reporters after attending an event to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga in Phagwara, organised by Lovely Professional University.
He said he felt fortunate to be in Punjab on this occasion. In a post on X earlier, Nabin wrote, “We must take a stand against addiction, as it is devastating countless lives and affecting families everywhere.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2026, let us commit to eliminating addiction from Punjab and across the nation.
Together, we will ensure that no force capable of weakening our roots and our bodies finds a place in our society.”
Drugs, gun culture, gang violence, and terrorism have plagued Punjab for decades.
While state authorities are making efforts to curb these issues, cases of violence, drug abuse, and terrorism continue to persist in the region.
Punjab Police have launched a major anti-drug, anti-gangster, and anti-terror campaign to tackle the growing menace, especially after several people, including policemen, lost their lives in gang and terror-related incidents in the first half of 2026.
