Senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia on Friday asked the AAP government what change it had brought to the rural areas of Punjab ahead of the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections.

Talking to mediapersons in Chandigarh, Kalia said the elections have been announced in Punjab, but AAP leaders, including Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, are busy blaming opposition parties.

He said they should instead tell people how many roads have been built in villages and what the condition of hospitals and schools is. He added that the government has not explained its performance in rural areas.

Kalia said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the finance minister must explain what they have done for villages in the past three years and ten months. He asked what “badlav” (change) they brought after seeking votes in its name and how many election promises have been fulfilled.

When asked about the possibility of the BJP joining hands with the Shiromani Akali Dal for the 2027 Punjab polls, Kalia said the party had decided in 2022 to contest the elections alone and form the government on its own.

He said the BJP is working towards achieving this goal.

Commenting on BJP leader Amarinder Singh’s recent remarks supporting a pre-poll alliance between the BJP and SAD for the 2027 polls, he said, “Captain Sahib is a senior leader in Punjab. I respect him. But the BJP decided in 2022 that we will fight on our own.”

The zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections in Punjab will be held on December 14, and the counting of votes will take place three days later.
