Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today asked the BJP to tell people about its contribution in providing relief to the families in the state, who were affected by the worst-ever natural calamity last year.
In a statement here, Sukhu launched a scathing attack on the BJP and alleged the BJP was spending crores of Rupees on the rebel MLAs (Congress) for their stay in five-star hotels outside the state, providing them helicopters and security, but has not spent a penny for the disaster affected people of the Himachal Pradesh.
“The state government released a special relief package of Rs 4500 crore to rehabilitate and help 22,000 disaster-affected families in the state after the unprecedented natural calamity last year, without any support from the Central government,” he said.
“The BJP leaders in the state instead created hurdles to ensure that the state government does not get any relief from the Centre,” he alleged.
The Chief Minister said when it came to fighting for the rights of Himachal Pradesh, the BJP leaders backed out.
“The BJP leaders did not support the government when it was about voting to adopt a resolution to urge the Central government to declare the natural calamity in the state as a national disaster in the state Assembly,” he said.
Sukhu said the present Congress government needed to be working with political motives.
“That is why we changed the rules quickly to increase the relief money to facilitate proper rehabilitation of disaster-affected people. It was a historic step,” he said. He said the BJP is only doing politics, whereas the Congress wants to serve the people and is sensitive to their welfare,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the people of the state have seen the conduct of the BJP in the recent episode, wherein it used money power to destabilise the democratically elected government by the people.
He said the people of HP will give a befitting reply to the BJP in the ensuing polls for adopting unfair tactics to topple the government in a bid to grab power.
