Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has reaffirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will continue to support Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for another term, dismissing speculation that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) might consider a new face after the upcoming assembly elections later this year.
His remarks come amid ongoing political chatter regarding the future leadership of the NDA in Bihar. Speaking in an exclusive conversation with mediapersons, Choudhary emphasised that Nitish Kumar has been the leader of the NDA in Bihar since 1996 and will continue in that role.
He categorically stated that the BJP remains comfortable with Kumar’s leadership, underscoring his long-standing association with the alliance. “Nitish was the leader yesterday, he is the leader today, and he will remain so tomorrow,” he asserted.
Amid speculation that Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant, who has largely remained away from active politics, may enter the political arena, Choudhary termed it a "personal decision" of the Chief Minister and an "internal matter" of the Janata Dal (United).

He maintained that whatever decision the JD(U) takes in this regard, the BJP, as an alliance partner, will stand by it.
Choudhary also downplayed the impact of Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition and the principal challenger to the NDA in Bihar. He dismissed Yadav’s recent populist promises as mere political posturing, labeling him as nothing more than an "appointee" of his father, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad.
He further claimed that Yadav's political standing is entirely dependent on his father’s backing, suggesting that if Lalu Prasad were to name someone else, such as his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav or daughter Misa Bharti, as his political successor, Tejashwi would quickly lose relevance.
Choudhary’s statements reinforce the BJP’s commitment to Nitish Kumar’s leadership in the state, while also taking a sharp dig at the opposition ahead of the crucial assembly elections.
