The swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government in West Bengal is scheduled to take place this Saturday, even as speculation continues over who will assume the Chief Minister’s post. Amid the uncertainty, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari struck a confident note from Nandigram, declaring that the party is poised to rule the state for the next 100 years.
Addressing supporters in Nandigram, Adhikari said the BJP would undertake initiatives in the coming years to ensure long-term political stability in the state. “In the coming years, I will undertake such work that the BJP will remain in power for a century,” he asserted.
Adhikari, widely regarded as a “son of the soil,” secured his third consecutive victory from Nandigram, having previously won in 2016 and 2021. In the 2026 Assembly elections, he retained the seat with a margin of over 9,000 votes. On his return to his constituency on Wednesday morning, he was greeted by large crowds of supporters, reflecting strong local backing.
Expressing gratitude to the electorate, Adhikari said he would remain indebted to the people of Nandigram and pledged to repay their trust through his work. At the same time, he indicated his willingness to abide by the party’s decisions regarding future responsibilities. “I will humbly accept whatever decision the party takes; but whether it be Bhabanipur or Nandigram—I remain with you,” he said.
His remarks come against the backdrop of reports of unrest from several parts of the state following the announcement of election results earlier this week. Incidents described as post-poll violence—including vandalism and attempts to take control of party offices—have raised concerns over law and order.
In response, Adhikari issued a firm appeal to BJP workers and supporters, urging restraint. He emphasised that no one should take the law into their own hands and stressed that any alleged wrongdoing by political opponents would be addressed through legal means. “We will not forget the past, but we will not stoop to that level. Those responsible will be held accountable through the law,” he said.
Political observers view Adhikari’s remarks as a calibrated message ahead of the new government’s formation, balancing assertiveness with a call for discipline. He also urged party cadres to focus on development, expressing confidence that sustained governance efforts could significantly expand the party’s support base in the state.
