Punjab AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is hatching a conspiracy and would try to get bonafide voters deleted in Punjab through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The Anandpur Sahib MP asked the Election Commission of India to ensure the SIR of electoral roll be conducted in a transparent manner.
In a video, Kang alleged that the BJP was hatching a conspiracy in the name of SIR which is dangerous for democracy.
He alleged that the BJP would try to strike off bonafide voters of Punjab from the electoral rolls in the name of vote verification. "But, we will not let this happen," Kang said.
"We need to remain alert and protect our democratic right. Democracy can be saved only if we have a voting right," he noted.
He further alleged that where the BJP does not get support of the people, it uses different "tactics". Citing the recent assembly polls in West Bengal, Kang alleged that with the misuse of the ECI, the elections were "looted." "I want to make it clear to the ECI that vote verification be done in a transparent manner. We will not tolerate if any attempt is made to delete a vote under a conspiracy. This exercise should be transparent," he further said.
Asking people to protect their votes, Mann alleged that the BJP's intention is not only to get votes of bonafide voters deleted but also to add those in voters list who have nothing to do with Punjab.
On Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had said his party would not allow even a single genuine vote to be deleted in the state under the SIR process.
Warning against any attempt to engineer "fake votes" in favour of a particular political party, Mann asserted that AAP leaders and workers would remain stationed alongside Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at every polling booth across Punjab to monitor the exercise and prevent any irregularity.
The ECI issued a notification on Thursday directing the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state.
Under the SIR, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will undertake door-to-door visits across Punjab from June 25 to July 24 for filling voter verification forms.
